How To Repair Grey Water Pipe

Topic: Grey h2o plumbing drip in a glued joint, how ro repair?
Posted By: rubycreekted on 07/20/12 12:59pm I have a glued joint that is dripping grey water. All the joints are glued all the mode from the valve up to the bottom of the grey water tank. I tin can cut the straight section so install a glued or rubber coupling in a 6 inch directly section subsequently the repair. I am thinking of buying a ii inch rubber coupling to sideslip over the leak and clamp it with stainless steel hose clamps. The leak is where a elbow meets up with the 6 inch straight piece. Since this is very low force per unit area I recollect this will work. The two safety couplings may be improve than glued joints since they will allow for some flex. Is in that location any other way to fix a leak in glued plumbing? Cheers TED
Posted By: sometime guy on 07/twenty/12 01:06pm don't know if the fix will work but take you thought of the condom paint the advertise on idiot box the kind where he is sitting in the boat. if so, you can buy it at lowes or home depot in the paint dept.
Posted By: doughere on 07/20/12 01:10pm I've used the prophylactic couplings a number of times. They are easy to install, tin can hands exist removed later for other repairs, they add flex to the organization to keep it from breaking in other places.

Posted By: DLW on 07/20/12 01:13pm Ted, the couple of times I've had this problem, I was able to slip a knife bract in the joint in enough places to have the articulation apart - the glue had not been immune to cure. Was probably just lucky.

If it won't come apart - a small pigsty drilled thru the outside layer of the joint might allow you lot inject some epoxy - as a temp set.

Of grade, yous could but leave it lone - gray water won't hurt annihilation and it will likely plug up on its own over time - unless its really loose - if information technology is ... it should come apart.

Confusus say - if there is goose egg wrong with your TT .... look till u r 500 miles from habitation .... something will turn up!

Posted By: DutchmenSport on 07/20/12 02:00pm If it's not under pressure level, I'd become the joint good and dry, then simply apply plumbing PVC gum over the surface area to fill the spot that leaks. Then if information technology still leaks after setting up, effort the rubber boot. If PVC glue holds water pipes under force per unit area, it certainly will hold a pocket-size leak non under pressure.
Posted By: time2roll on 07/twenty/12 02:01pm Drain the tank, clean the pipe, apply JB Weld. Await 12 hours and you are adept to become.
Worst case you can cutting the pipage adjacent week.

Posted By: rolnhome on 07/20/12 03:52pm Cut the elbow out. Buy new. Glue coupling to a higher place elbow with a short nipple glued into elbow. Glue some other brusque nipple out of elbow attach to existing with safe coupling no hub band. That is the proper repair everything else is a patch or won't hold for long. My opinion. xl yrs in pipage business.

Almost exactly what I would exercise. I have repaired a lot of piping and the only correct and permanent style is to cut the pipe on each side of the leaking plumbing fixtures. Buy the correct fittings to replace what was in that location plus 2 unions of the correct size. Glue it all back together and you lot have a permanent repair equal to or amend than the original.

If at that place isn't enough give in the assembly to glue it all together, so utilize the rubber coupler.

I keep a couple of tubes of this effectually always. You can get "marine goop" but whatever Broth is fantabulous. It tin can exist found in the plumbing dept. I guarantee it volition plug the pigsty. It remains pliable and sticks to just about anything. Best $6 dollar tool to accept in the RV. I used mine today setting up campsite.

Posted By: westend on 07/20/12 x:26pm The merely long term fix I've found for leaking PVC fittings is to supplant and solvent weld the new fittings and pipe together. A condom union may hold and it may not. It's usually woth my time to eliminate the "may non". I haven't institute an adhesive, yet, besides PVC solvent cement that will hold, long term on PVC or ABS.

Posted By: mobeewan on 07/21/12 01:25am Don't apply PVC glue. PVC gum volition not work properly with ABS. The Blackness plastic pipage and fittings are ABS and require ABS glue which is too black. I accept stock-still a crack in ABS piping past excavating the crack and "painting" the crack with ABS gum in layers as the previous layer had ready. You lot may exist able to grind out and or dig out the area of the joint that is leaking and build it support by filling information technology a little at a time with ABS glue.
Posted By: YC one on 07/21/12 ten:26am I accept non had GOOP fail yet. It is not silicon type sealer. It has the appearance and texture but is far stickier. It seems to stick to anything. Just apply some sandpaper or steal a nail file from your wife and clean the area. Information technology sets up in an hour or so. I also keep JB weld around. Information technology is not flexible when dry but information technology is amazing stuff and has been around every bit long as I tin think.
